The European gravure industry met at ERA’s Annual & Packaging / Decorative Gravure Conference, which took place in Thessaloniki from 21st to 23rd of September 2021.
This year, the ERA Conference put a special focus on the sustainability perspective of the gravure printing process and its future. Over 80 delegates followed ERA’s invitation to discuss face-to-face challenges such as sustainability in packaging printing and alternative galvanic technologies.
>> At the end of the conference, the winners of this year’s Gravure Award for Sustainable Packaging were announced. We are particularly proud and excited that the mono-material, all-PP coffee packaging solution which we presented was recognized at this important industry competition, rewarding both printing excellence and sustainable packaging design.
The recyclable packaging film designed and developed for OXFAM’s BIO Highland Coffee 16x Pads is based exclusively on PP films, it contains no metal and it can be recycled through the available recycling streams for polypropylene.
Compared to the traditional, multi-layer, non-recyclable films which are usually used for coffee packaging, this new packaging film is an innovative recyclable alternative. With very low oxygen & water vapor transmission rates, this high-barrier film was designed to keep the coffee fresh and to protect its aroma and at the same time it has excellent mechanical properties achieving high production rates.
Thanks to its high-quality rotogravure printing and perfect finishing it offers enhanced packaging aesthetics, appealing to today’s consumers.
>> On the second day of the event, the ERA delegates were welcomed at our high-end rotogravure production site.
